The running has certainly been something I have missed! I almost forgot how much I enjoy just going out on the road and pushing my soul to take me around the countryside and back home. It's a rewarding feeling, something that everyone needs to experience. I can honestly say that I have needed to put on some serious mileage on my legs. Doing so is pushing my desire to accomplish more with my other calisthenic side of my workouts. I believe in the run, what it does and how it pushes the soul... give it a try! just go run for 10 minutes, or more if you want, and enjoy the road, enjoy the freedom, enjoy the strain and power produced by the body as you propel yourself across the earth. Fly Free!
Today is another topic near and dear to training professionals and should be explored for greater understanding: Progressive Overload. What exactly is Progressive Overload? it is the concept that as you progress through a training routine that the resistance is increased over the period of the regimen to maximize physiological adaptations in the muscle. Basically adding more weight so you get even stronger. The idea behind this is something that I have personally experienced. If you are benching 135 lbs week in and week out then as the weeks go by and your muscles adapt and change, then 135 lbs will no longer stress your muscles and essentially you will be accomplishing nothing with your bench press. The amount of resistence should always be increased even if it's in a minimal sense. Another note is that this resistance doesn't have to be the amount of weight... this can be just the number of repititions completed per set, it can be an increase in the time to complete 1 repitition. The concept is, constant increase of stress and resistance on the muscles every time you exercise. Don't let your lift become stagnant... Always improve, always break records, always do a little more!
Tomorrow is a bit of a rest day... but I am going to repeat Mondays workout just because next monday is going to be more intense with more to do!
