It's about to be Monday, a whole new week. I cannot express how difficult it has been to keep up with this after having to step away for so long, but I will get a grip on it and get back to helping my wonderful followers continue on with their endeavors.
This past week was extremely unsettling. The untimely death of a teammate and coaching partner has taken a large toll on my motivation to put in any real workouts. I do owe her a tribute, since she was a teammate, coach, and colleague for 6 years. She helped me in my training, taught me great techniques, and was a hard ass when she needed to get me up and going. Rest in Peace Jackie Poulson, you are and will be sorely missed. I have no way to express to you how I have felt during this time of the services, seeing all my former teammates, and meeting family members, sharing stories, trying to be strong for my athletes, and helping put to rest someone so young. It can do 1 of 2 things to us, destroy our desires, or ignite a fire for life. The only solace in such a tragedy is found in a simple question that my mentor and coach said at the service.. "what can we take from this?" And that question is important, I for one am trying to take a better understanding of joy. We often forget to appreciate a good life, or a good achievement if we don't experience or understand the trials and devastating occurrences that are thrown our way, we often try to bury them and forget the lessons that they can teach us and in turn make us stronger! Every Day, Good or Bad, Has a Potential to Make Us Stronger People. It Only Depends on What We Learned and Did.
In my last post I threw a big shout out to a inspiration in my philosophy of strength and conditioning, Zach Even-Esh. I am do not want to belittle or make it sound like I don't like his methods, on the contrary, what I am going to state here is merely a desire to make sure I can experience his system in a way he would desire one to do so.
I am not going to continue with the Underground Beast Program at this time. I have found it difficult to properly do the workouts with the lack of equipment that I have that is called for in many of the workouts. So I am going to postpone the system until a time when I can acquire the equipment and do it properly, so anyone who has bought it recently, DO IT, I know the results are legit and worth going after.
In the meantime I am going to go for a different approach and try out a spin on some traditional lifting with some exhaustion training intermittent throughout the week. I was introduced to a 100 rep workout challenge, which incorporates a traditional 5-3-1 workout system with every other day being a 100 rep challenge to put a heavier focus and target on hypertrophy and endurance. 2 days 5-3-1, 2 days 100 rep, and 2 days "prowler" is what the original plan calls for, for my particular goals, I am going to use the prowler days to do some heavy plyometrics and running workouts. It starts Monday! Time to Rise!
