A happy 2013 to everyone reading. I am back again, and have decided that I am going to be a very happy man when I have a real job and a real home so that I can sustain a certain consistency of living and utilities so that I can be better about writing in here and establishing better habits.
But anyways to the reason for a good new post. We are all only about a week and a half into a new year and with New Year's, comes resolutions, we all make them, one way or another. The start of a new year just seems like a good reason to start something new. And that being said, how many of us have gone out to do something new or accomplish something or as we have talked about many times, made a goal to pursue, just to not achieve or fall back or not quite get to the finish. Especially with training, the only way to get to where your goals are is through consistent training and diet. So, why do so many of us fail at attaining our goals. In my personal opinion, it is because we are not held accountable. Many people will counter this and say something to the effect of "I write it on my calendar" or "I go with some friends." But this isn't really accountability. Accountability is when you have a reason to perform an action due to certain consequences that result in success or failure. So when you go to the gym with your buddy, and you decide to not show up, is he/she really going to fault you or make you pay for your lack of commitment, probably not. Real accountability comes from the presence of true enforcement. Why don't you show up late to work with no reason, you might get fired. Why don't you speed down the highway just because you can, because you might get a ticket. This begs the question then, how do we become accountable for out training when it's a personal issue. The answer is: associate training with important life outcomes. If you don't train or exercise, you will probably gain weight, and every pound of weight gained takes you that much closer to serious health concerns that can shorten your life and cause great ailment. To you athletes who need to perform, if you don't improve, where will your place be on your team if you don't do what you need to? Make your training something important and not just a pass time. Make time for your workouts, make time to fulfill your goals and resolutions.
Make 2013 a year of accomplishment.
