"If you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders - What would you tell him?"

-Ayn Rand

A little bit of weekend motivation. We all carry our own worlds upon our shoulders, it never gets easier, but we cannot afford to let it drop from our grasp. What would you tell Atlas? Would you tell yourself the same? Our strength is never ending, it's a matter of constantly pushing ourselves to meet the demands of life and overcoming our limitations. Don't let limits define you, rather define your limits and set them high.

The Journey to Ironman Calgary 70.3 has been quite the inspirational experience. Pushing myself beyond previous limits has taught me much about myself and what I am capable of. It's helped me continue getting stronger in many facets of my life. My business grows, my clients improve, my marriage is awesome, and my training keeps getting better.

An interesting development that I have noticed after this week of very productive training is the maintenance of my speed and explosiveness even with the endurance work being increased exponentially. Speed is going to be a tool that I will bring to the table in my pursuit of IRONMAN status, a tool that seems to go under appreciated in the endurance community. Speed can provide a great combination of advantages, being able to accelerate to race pace faster and more comfortably, having an extra gear for the final stretch, distancing yourself from the field, pushing through the inclines, etc. Speed is essential even to the most prolific endurance athlete.

With all the intervals and weight training that I have added extra to my event training, I have become faster in my swim, less stressed on the bike and more fluid in the run. I feel that not only will I be able to complete my first Ironman but I will be able to compete for a place in my age group.  Splitting my days up effectively has made my training very productive recently.

Today's training will be:

Every Day... A Little Stronger
