The goal of any athlete, or individual, in pursuit of better personal performance is to continually improve upon their previous performance. Progress is the name of the game, no matter if you are an Olympic caliber athlete or brand new to the workout scene. If you don't progress, you don't accomplish the reason to exercise, making changes.

Never Moving Backwards

Exercise routines and fitness journeys need to keep 1 key principle in mind when being developed by the coach or trainer. Progression! If progression is not in the mind of the coach, there is no need to begin a program. You can't achieve your goal or complete the journey unless you take steps forward to accomplish the goal. Essentially, taking steps backwards, plateaus, and negative thoughts in general need to be erased from your environment as much as possible. A task much easier said than done. But with some good instruction and counsel from people who have practiced what they preach and provided success not just with others but with themselves, you can follow suit.
Constant progression comes first from your mentality to approach training! When you enter your arena of exercise the way you are thinking about your session will directly affect the outcome and results of that day. It is important to take every session, every workout seriously and positively. Every program has workouts that are not enjoyable and phases that are not the most exciting, but accepting that these periods are important for your growth and sending the right vibes for your performance, even the most difficult or mundane of workouts will become much more beneficial to your result.
Consistency in challenging the body. The body is obviously the part of your being that is accomplishing the work. That being said, the body has to actively pursue the goal you have set forth. The body is a very adaptive machine, and the only way to increase it's capabilities is to periodically push the machine closer to greater limits. Every week, or every day according to your performances, increase the resistance, sets, reps, reduce the rest and watch how the performances will improve. Feeling comfortable in exercise will never produce the outcomes that you desire, as you exercise, you must constantly challenge your muscles and body to do more let the body adapt to go further and further.
Falling into ruts and hitting plateaus will eventually happen. No matter how smart and efficiently we exercise, set backs are bound to happen. As frustrating as they can be, and how much we want to avoid them letting them reduce your capacities and forcing you backwards is not necessary. Strengthen the mind when the body cannot perform, consult professionals on active ways to recover as quickly as possible and maintain the strengths you have gained.
I assure my progress stays consistent with a simple platform to my training phases. Laying a Foundation, Dynamic Development, and Strength Application. The way I accomplish these phases may vary, but they have specific goals in mind by the time I finish each phase... and as I advance through them I can gage where I was and how far I have come fairly easy. Afterwards, I can repeat the phases over and over again maintaining my progression building a larger base and building better technique on top of that.
How do you keep your progression going? What tips and tricks do you apply to your training?
Every Day... A Little Stronger
