Training has been going very well. I feel as if I haven't lost a step from my injury a couple of months ago. Not to mention having been able to add in a lifting regimen, I am making solid progress. I have been talking a little bit about things I am learning on my journey and applying certain training concepts to bring myself to that elite level and make myself able to compete with the best! Involving more intervals, swimming, biking and running has starting taking effect on my technique. One thing that I have to say personally, you cannot replace the long runs with intervals. The body needs to adapt to the duration of the distance and prepare for the repetitive impact of the long duration phases.
A typical week for me is 3 times lifting weights.
2 run days, 2 swim days, 2 bike days and a long day
during the week I progressively go from short intense to longer harder intervals (i.e. the first run day is shorter and faster than the second, same for the swim and bike.) then I rotate my long days between the swim bike and run.
Thus far I am feeling very confident and comfortable with this schedule and routine. I have to say I am still nervous about the swim. It is by far where I lack the most experience and technique. However everyday I seem to make improvements and it's getting easier to do. I am still 3 months out from race day so I now just need to keep practicing and practicing.
Changing gears and pursuing this goal has certainly been a challenge. At first focusing on the endurance and distance training has tested a bit of patience and will power. And it has certainly turned me into a better overall athlete. Being able to maintain explosive power and carry myself for long distances opens up a great deal of fitness achievements that I never thought of pursuing before.
Challenge yourself and don't just imagine the possibilities, Live them!
Every Day... A Little Stronger
