A term that I have come to loathe is one that is thrown around way to loosely around the gyms and training areas throughout the world. Everyone seems to train for "functional strength" or such and such's workout gives you "functional strength." And quite honestly, define this. I Dare You!
Let's think about this for a second, when something functions, it just means that it completes it's purpose. Like a leg when it functions helps you walk, when your arm functions it throws, punches, writes, etc. So when you're training and preparing for your various activities, don't be deterred by people spouting out that their workout is better than yours because it's more functional. The danger with these workouts is that if you're training to be a massive powerlifter and doing a routine for 400 meter sprinters, you will never achieve your goals. The only functional workout is the one that helps you fulfill your purpose... a.k.a GOAL. You will become a functional machine when you train towards your goal.
My Journey continues forward, as I have stated I am taking this scholastic year to become the greatest machine I've ever been. All for the purpose to take a shot at becoming a soccer player again. Today's workout was pretty intense, some good speed work and weights.
2x (20-20-20) 20m sprint/grab 20m relax 20m sprint/ grab
4x 150m each faster I started the first one at 18.5 and worked down to 17.00
Weights: I continue with the 100-rep challenge... a beast of a workout.
