Many people compare life to a marathon. However some time ago I read a quote from a fantastic athlete, Michael Johnson, that life can be better compared to the career of an Olympic sprinter, long periods of hard work with intermittent moments where we are given opportunities to prove our greatness. In all truthfulness I agree 100% with that comparison. Not just for having been a collegiate sprinter, but also the fact that life isn't long and plain, it is filled with ups downs, opportunities, failures, triumphs, and lots and lots of hard work (if you're doing things right). Though hard a marathon is, the scheme does not fit the complexity that life is made up of. My point to this rant, is don't waste the moments that come that give you the opportunity to become better.
An interesting development in sports nutrition has become quite popular is that of the Intermittent fast. usually split into a 16 hour daily fast and 8 hours of good brisk eating fulfilling the entire caloric daily need. This particular style of eating is proven to improve hormonal balance and corporal performance. This is essentially designed to help people improve their ability to build muscle and lose fat all at the same time and in essence improve an overall lifestyle. Recently reading and viewing material from a well respected Strength Coach, Zach Even-Esh, He stated that he visited a nutritionist after some time having been doing such a diet and his blood work was on over-drive. His explanation was that his body was thriving off of hormonal energy and wasn't using the macronutrients as efficiently as it could have been. Now the problem... Clients and athletes from other prominent coaches have reported no problems with doctors or nutritionists... The question, is this particular methodical fast the most efficient, perhaps there is a balance that can better utilize the hormonal balance and macronutrients the body needs to work most efficiently. What is that balance? How could the diet be manipulated? Does it need to be manipulated? Does Zach Even-Esh provide a singular instance of issues, or are the effects universal?
Diet is an important part of performance enhancement and things could always get better. I personally am following a Intermittent fasting diet and I feel fantastic, I am getting leaner and I feel stronger and have greater energy. I also have no done any blood work to see my own circumstances on that level. Details to follow on my study of diets schemes... in the time being, keep getting a little stronger each day!
